Frederic Ozanam is probably known as the founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, an association of charity that has spread throughout the world. He was also one of the most celebrated professors at the University of Paris, where a lecture hall has been dedicated to his memory.
More important though, he lived in a fidelity to God's Grace as a Catholic layman -- a loving husband and devoted father, a distinguished writer, and a man who actively practiced the works of mercy. Laity in the church particularly will find a kindred spirit in Frederic Ozanam.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was started here in Nelson County, Bardstown, Kentucky in 1992 by Father C. Patrick Creed, pastor of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral.
At that time the St. Joseph Conference opened a thrift store and later opened the Food Pantry.
